Cause. Due to the fact that many of my ancestors were born in Alfhausen and
surrounding,
I wanted to have a copy of the BMD-books at home, to avoid
travelling so much.
(BMD=Baptism-, Marriage- and Death records-books).
Alfhausen lies about 100 miles from my house in the Netherlands.
I wanted these copies in the form of scans with of course a good and clear
alphabetical register of names.
After some time I got scanned all these registration records, with of course
the approval of the parish priest.
(The church also disposes of my three books and the DVD).
Totaly I made 6530 scans and "burned" them on a DVD.
For the genealogist, this is of course a very interesting and help for their
genealogical research,
they can order the DVD by an e-mail. Price will be found at the bottom of this
page.
On my web-site you will find all the surnames of all the persons who were
born/baptised,
or married or died from the beginning through 1903,(the deaths till 1927), in
Alfhausen.
All these names have a date or scannumber which refer to the scans where
you
will find the concerning record.
Something about the
archives of the R.C. Parisch Church, St. Johann in Alfhausen. Alfhausen is located about 20 miles north of Osnabrück in the state of
Niedersachsen.
The catholic church St. Johann contains not only the little place
Alfhausen but also the
hamlets Thiene, Wallen and Heeke.
Alfhausen was a very catholic community, more than 95 % of the population was
catholic.
In 1800 the parish had a population of about 2030 inhabitants, of which 2000
belonged
to the catholic church.
The BMD-books, which rest at the archives of the church, contain the
whole period from
the beginning till now.
In 1679 the parish priests begun to record the births/baptism, and 10 years
later, in 1689, they also begun to registrate the marriages and deaths.
In the first 10 years we see a lot of gaps in the registration of the baptisms.
The BMD-books are in a reasonable good state.
In general the writing is very good to read, but sometimes it is bad, or the ink
has spotted over the paper, or the edge of the page is crumbled etc.

What may you expect
in this web-site? In this web-site you will find all the surnames with data of all the
persons
the parish priests recorded through the years in relation with births, marriages
and deaths.
To these long (alphabetical) lists belong a DVD. This DVD contains all the
scans
of all the records the priests wrote.
As mentioned earlier, 6530 scans are made with a resolution of 150 dpi.
These scans, in fact digitalized photographs, give you a view in the BMD-books
of the church.
Another advantage is that that you can make also a print at home of a scan to
get a
copy of a record of your relatives in the very past. (The parish of Alfhausen will have no longer
"secrets" for the genealogists.) This DVD are for sale.(see end of this page).
How does it work? When you activate one of the four hyperlinks in the framework of Periode
I, see below,
of Baptism, or Men-Marrige, or Women-Marriage, or Deaths,
for instance BAPTISM (1679
- 1811), an alphabetical list of names will appear
of the baptisms on your monitor.
These list starts with:
Name
Birth/Baptism
------------------------|----------|
AHLBRINCK
17-06-1696
AHLERS
03-02-1697
AHLERS
14-04-1697
AHLHAUSEN
03-08-1787
AHLHAUSEN
04-03-1790
ALBERDING
19-10-1727
ALBERDING
19-03-1774
ALBERDING
09-12-1786
ALBERDING
09-01-1765
etc.
etc.
Now it is rather simple to find the
belonging scan to the birth/baptize of for instance:
ALBERDING
19-03-1774
on the DVD.
Go to the scan where you read
1774, then to the spot you read 19 March.
It turne out that scannumber 321 bap 1773.jpg (on the bottom left of the
page),
is the right one, you read:
19 Anna Maria et Maria Gertrudt gemina et filia Henrich Alberding et
Margaretha Meijers conj. lev: Anna Maria Gohman et Maria Gertrud
Holtgrefe gd Bohman.
In the same way you will find the scans belonging to marriages or deaths.
By activating WOMEN-MARRIAGE,
a list will appear of the marriages
of the women in alphabetical order.
These list starts with:
By
clicking and press "Enter" a file in the framework a scan will appear
of the record you are looking for.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
READ
ME FIRST (Due to the complicated
scanning of the large pages in the ledgers of the second periode II, I advise you to print out in,A4 landscape,
"Read me first"and read it before).
To find a scan of a
record (of the second periode II) it goes in the same way as in
the first periode I.
When a hyperlink in PERIODE II is
activated, for instance, BAPTISM
(1812-1903), an
alphabetical list will appear of the baptisms.
If you
want to seethe scan of a birth
record of Alberding, for instance
about 1850, it turne out that scannumber 755, (bap0755.jpg),
is the right one,you read:
GeburtTaufe 34ALBERDING-Hermann
Wilhelm Sohn des Colon Johann
Henrich Alberding und der Bernardina April 1852Langenkamp aus Wallen. Lev: Hermann Henrich
Dressmann Wilhelm Geers Walle Maria Gerdrut
Hilsheim geboren Tecklenborg
To find a
scan of a record of a marriage or death, it goes exactly in the
same way.
How does the files look out on the DVD of the second periode II?
Beginning: dead005-1811.jpg
dead006-1811.jpg
dead007-1811.jpg
dead008-1811.jpg
etc. End:
dead862a.jpg
dead862c.jpg (1926)
(notice that the deaths are
scanned till mid 1926)
Totally I made 6530 scans in the two
periods
The meaning of some symbols you will meet in the list of the second periode II.

The next page shows a list with names
of emigrants who left Alfhausen for mainly America.
This list is only based on the remarks the parish priests wrote afterwards in
the birth records
and does not necessarily to be complete.
